1385200 2014-09-30 18:58:00 riding out in the middle of the road (www.stuff.co.nz)?

Yet another stupid "one-eyed" law on its way? :(

1385201 2014-09-30 19:30:00 Friggin idiot is trying to get himself killed by the looks. In the middle on the road on an obvious busy street. :groan:

See it all the time - some of them are on a death wish. Pulling out or darting in and out of traffic NOT looking and then they blame the drivers. We almost collected some twit here the other week, went to pull out from the side of the road at around 9pm, looked in the mirrors as well as over shoulder, then all of a sudden saw a movement and had to brake. It was some dip **** on a bike, no lights, riding down the middle on the road in the dark.

Notice all the cars on the side of the road? You know with this swingy out thing called doors that car drivers open without looking in their mirror and collecting bikes? Ie www.nzherald.co.nz

1385203 2014-09-30 20:02:00 Put a bounty on cyclists and the problem should die out. ;) R2x1 (4628)
1385204 2014-09-30 20:36:00 Its quite simple . If your mode of transport is so slow that it cant keep up with normal traffic flow, its an accident waiting to happen.

Same with slow, overloaded oooold cars that cant do better than 2nd gear up a hill
same with scooters that cant do more than 30Km up a hill (just a normal AK incline , not steep)
same with trucks & all the cars trying to get passed them
The difference is, bike riders will get squashed .

If you are going to ride a bike, you have to accept the risks. Its that simple.
Dont start moaning when you get knocked off your bike, you knew the risks

Its no different than if skateboarders started complaining(they dont) after they ride down the roads. Or me complaining when I decide to run across the road
instead of using a ped crossing.

Like most cyclists, you deliberately missed the point :(

Exactly. This cyclist appears to have been riding defensively and was not holding up traffic - in fact from the looks of it, there was absolutely no reason for the silver Mitsubishi to pass him. The cyclist was quite close to the Civic in front of him (which is why he bumped into it when the Mitsi gave him a fright), and the Civic was in a line of traffic travelling downhill, so the Mitsi would have gained no benefit from the passing maneouvre.

As far as the proposed legislation is concerned, there wouldn't have to be any legislation if cyclists AND motorists rode/drove with consideration.

And sorry, the truckies' argument about narrow roads and damaged gearboxes. Stupid argument. Like a human life is worth less than a gearbox!

Which is not to say a cyclist shouldn't be aware of the traffic flow around him and show some respect to a vehicle bigger than him. But respect goes both ways....

1385207 2014-09-30 21:58:00 No cycle lanes either.

Some 60 years ago, my brother was giving me a ride up a small country town, when some idiot in a parked car just swung his driver's side door open and you guessed it, brother and I took a nasty tumble.

No ambulance or rescue helicopter, just got up and swore at the driver and we went home for good "old" Mum to patch us up.

Not too safe here in ChCh. either, another cyclist killed by truck and trailer.

Lurking.

1385208 2014-09-30 22:17:00 I dont get it.

Looking at the 1st 2 , there is plenty of room on the LHS for the cyclist. In fact thats where most cyclists seem to go, to dart ahead of stopped trafffic.
A huge gap between the parked cars & stationary traffic. In fact in the first one, the motorist even motions thats where the cyclist should have been.
Not too sure what the car driver was up to though. Many car drivers are stupid , its other cars that also have issues with those drivers.

Now lets see the vids of cyclists almost bowling down pedestrians, on foot paths & on zebra crossings . Ive been hit by a cyclist , walking on the footpath.

Remember the cyclist's camera will be a wide angle lens, giving the impression of a larger gap between the moving and parked cars than there actually is...

It is extremely sensible, so long as you are not holding up traffic, to ride at least a metre from parked cars to avoid being "doored" by an unobservant or unthinking driver getting out of his car.
