423275 2006-01-22 23:58:00 I did something very dumb!!!!

I knew it was bad, but I didn't know how bad.....

I thought I could get away with it.... but I didn't

My camera has a lovely big 512 MB compact flashdrive, and I don't have a zip drive, so I thought "hey I could move photos I from this computer to that one by uploading them to my camera and then plugging it into the other computer and downloading. Then I thought that works well and now I will rotate them with the windows tool while they are still on the camera so that every time I download them they look nice"

I then put my camera away and next time I turned it on it said card error to me.... I got upset and reformated my compact flash card using my cameras reformat function.... but it still does not work....

I am going into a shop to see if anyone knows how to help me, but I suspect they won't... so if you do please help me :waughh:

423276 2006-01-23 00:14:00 remove the card and put it back in, to check the connection.
can you format it from windows when the camra is connected to the PC??
if you go to a camra shop get them to format it in there camra.

if you still have no luck then it may be time to get a new card.

you can get a good price on CF cards at flashcards.co.nz

I will have a dig in my box of crap and see if i have a secondhand CF card i can sell/give you.

423277 2006-01-23 00:18:00 That shouldn't have happened unless your card is physically damaged or you are using the CF card the wrong way.

How do you "read" your card on your PC? Cable to PC or CF Card reader? If your camera is bought in NZ you migh want to consider taking it to the camera shop you get your camera from.

Also, can you elaborate on which model of camera you have and the brand of CF Card? Some cameras do not support high capacity card (although they can still be written by the camera, but if any problem arises the manufacturer can void the warranty), as stated by the manufacturer. If I remember correctly (and that's a big one), the Olympuc C-Media 7070 only supports CF card up to 512 MB, which is stated by the manufacturer. OR was it a Panasonic? Either way, do tell more.

423278 2006-01-23 01:57:00 It should work . ;) My first thought was that you might have unplugged the camera while the computer was still writing those rotated pictures . But formatting should have fixed that .

When you have the camera (with its card) is attached to the computer, does the CF card appear as a removable disk on the computer? If so, try using the computer's Format function on it .

423279 2006-01-23 03:56:00 Thanks for all the help guys . The people in the shop were really helpful and tried accessing the card with a card reader and with several other cameras . We established the problem was not with the camera as it read other cards fine . the upshot of it all is nothing we did met with any response from the card at all .

I get an icon under my computer when I plug in the camera but when I click it just says drive empty . I tryed right clicking and selecting format from the menu, it says drive empty again . :groan:

I will call Jessops in the UK tonight and see what they say :annoyed:
