2006-01-22 09:23:00 | I find that the automatic Windows updates seem to have left a host of files like $NtUninstallxxxx in my Windows directory In total they seem to occupy a lot of space. Can I safely blow them away? Dick

2006-01-23 04:30:00 | As long as you will never want to uninstal the update you can delete them. Why not store the $NtUninstallxxxx folders on another partition or on backup cd then if you ever need them you can just put them back into the Windows directory, as I have done. | zqwerty (97) | |

2006-01-23 05:45:00 | There is a tool to remove them from XP as well, I found it during my research on this subject, many people have been bothered by the loss of HDD space and have posted in various forums for quite a while about their solutions to this strange oversight from MS. Most people just delete them outright but a few are more cautious and save them somewhere else for a while before they get the chop. I moved my folders of this type, and there were 132 of them about 225 Megs, onto another partition about 2 months ago, no problems so far. | zqwerty (97) | |

I get rid of mine all the time after I know it is still stable. |

2006-01-23 07:37:00 | Beware of Patchmania. (cf Upgrademania.) I'm a loose user, ie, go where ever I want onna innernet. I use 98se with firefox and use all the utilities recommended here at Pressf1 and the comp runs fine.

2006-01-23 19:03:00 | Thanks, folks. Seems the consensus is that they can go unless I want to uninstall or re-install them - that is all a bit beyond me as they are already installed and there is no need to do it again or to undo it. So, I have 686mb of disk space freed up  - important with all this digital photography needing space. Dick
