423038 2006-01-22 00:31:00 I have a Gateway laptop running Windows 2000 and this is the message I get when I try to use my D drive...

D:\is not accessible
illegal function

How do I repair my D drive when I cannot uninstall or reinstall it from my original Windows CD's!!

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

423039 2006-01-22 00:59:00 Are you using a cd or DVD burner?? If so which one?

And have you installed something like Nero or CD Creator?? If so, what version is installed?

Try uninstalling Easy CD and see if you can then read a CD.

423043 2006-01-22 23:39:00 I uninstalled the program and restarted. Now I don't get the same message but it won't read the CD. Says insert a CD and there's one already in there.... Caryl (9664)
423044 2006-01-23 00:23:00 Try another CD, preferably a commercial one.
Go into Device Manager and check under CD/DVD Drives that it is showing there and there are no exclamation marks or anything indicating it has a problem. If there is, remove the device form here then reboot your PC.

Failing all else the drive may have died.

Hang on - nowhere does it say that this 'D' drive is actually a CD drive. Why couldn't it be another HDD/Partition? Cannot use original Win CDs doesn't mean the CD drive's busted - could just mean the CDs are lost.

423046 2006-01-23 21:17:00 I tried another CD and it worked so then returned to the original one (to install my IPod) and it worked. Now why was the CD Creator causing a conflict?
Thank you so much. I had feared the drive had passed away!!
