422981 2006-01-21 07:50:00 I'm deciding which CPU I should get for a socket A motherboard,
a second hand athlon XP 2600+, or a sempron 2400+,
they all cost roughly the same, and have similar specs,
the main difference is that they run on different cores.

Any help would be great, thanks.

Sempron is a slightly slower variation of the Athlon XP / Athlon 64

422983 2006-01-21 09:07:00 id get the athlonXP 2600+ barton core and a good heatsink, then overclock to 3200+ speeds 200mhz fsb 11x multiplier.
all the bartons use identicle cores, although your miliage may vary, so you might only gget 3000+ speeds.

last i saw on pricespy the 3200+ was like $350+
while at teh time the 2600+ was like $150-200

422984 2006-01-21 09:56:00 Why ask?

You already have a CPU according to this thread.

You now need to install.

Possibly you do not have a CPU which makes the above thread worthless.

For me I would use a Athlon 2600+
