Getting the best of what you've got - just run a programme Pitstop Optimise which say says it can do heaps of things to optimise my computer IF I buy the programme. Any free ones out there

423073 2006-01-22 00:51:00 Try stuff without having to install anything else... disable useless services, disable unwanted startup apps, and get Windows optimisation advice. Why add to the problem by adding extra burden or costs to your system. Greg (193)
423074 2006-01-22 00:52:00 Just defrag the hdd, and get rid of the programs that dont have to be in startup.

Depends what version of Windows u have and how much ram you've got.

The more the better.

Dont trust these pay to use programs. They're most probably full of spyware, or something, or install it.

423075 2006-01-22 01:09:00 I have found some non-free utilities like Diskeeper, Registry First aid and System Mechanic to be useful and worthwhile buying, though I do prefer free :) Terry Porritt (14)
423076 2006-01-22 02:00:00 The results from Registry Mechanic will probably astonish you the first time you run it on a machine that has been in use for a year or two. Scouse (83)
423077 2006-01-22 02:03:00 Dont trust First Aid. It can remove valid entries and kill a system.

Never used Registry Mechanic, ccleaner does a good enough job.

423080 2006-01-22 05:08:00 In terms of hardware, you can optimise your computer by either inserting more RAMs into your motherboard (if you have got spare DIMM slots) or upgrade your processor or both. In terms of software, most advices have been mentioned above.

Cheers :)

423081 2006-01-22 08:16:00 I don't really use specific tools

read something like this (www.tweakhound.com)

Basically, turn the stuff off you don't need (and there is a lot of it).
