424267 2006-01-25 22:21:00 I was lucky enough to get a new computer for Christmas and have been mostly successful in trnaferring mt data from my (very) old machine.
However, no such luck with my *dbx files in Outlook Express.
I now have all my Personal Folders on a disc but unable to get the new Outlook Express to accept them in a form that will enable me to access them. I also have these files in Windows form in the application but they will not show up.
Help, please.

424268 2006-01-25 22:42:00 Have a look here (www.experts-exchange.com) .

I seem to remeber having such annoying issues with someone's outlook express that I just dragged the individual messages to the desktop on the old machine, copy all those *.eml files somwhere, and drag them back into OE on the new one.

424269 2006-01-26 04:10:00 The page suggested by gibler looks very good but in case it isn't mentioned there, you need to remove the "Read Only" attribute from the *.dbx files taken from the CD. You can only do this after copying the files to your hard drive first. FoxyMX (5)
424270 2006-01-26 04:15:00 If you are happy with command line working, I believe that XCOPY will automatically turn off that Read Only attribute if you do a "*.*" copy. Even if you're not, copy the files to your hard disk, then in a command line window, CD to that directory and do ATTRIB -R *.*. It gets very tedious doing it with a mouse. :D Graham L (2)
424271 2006-01-26 21:47:00 Thanks for all the advice. There's a lot to absorb, especially on the page from Gibler.
I'll get to work and let you all know.
Thanks again!

424272 2006-01-26 22:04:00 The suggestion that I posted would be the easiest and quickest thing to try first and if that doesn't work then go to Gibler's suggestion. FoxyMX (5)
424273 2006-01-29 22:39:00 I have successfully transferred my *dbx files to my new computer. I created a new file, Keith Mail, on my desktop and was able to import to the new OE by using the "Import from Outlook Express 6" option. And yes, I had to take Foxy's advice as well.
Thanks again, everyone!

424274 2006-01-30 05:21:00 Johnboy helped me witha similar problem. Once I had copied the dbx files to CD I needed to be able to open them.
This worked.
