424253 2006-01-25 21:49:00 Quick question... now that my comp is in the DVD capable era, what are reasonably priced yet reliable DVDs to use? Looking for something not too expensive

Media supported by my drive (Liteon 1693):
DVD read compliant : DVD single / dual layer ( PTP / OTP ), DVD-R
( 3.9 GB / 4.7 GB ), DVD-R multi-borders, DVD+R, DVD+R multi-
sessions, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW
CD read compliant : CD-DA, CD-ROM, CD-ROM / XA, Photo-CD, Multi-
session, Karaoke-CD, Video-CD, CD-I FMV, CD Extra, CD Plus, CD-R, and CD-RW
Support both 8 cm and 12 cm disc of CD and DVD family

Not really into DVDxRW's either; just DVDxR's (x is a variable for either + or -)

424254 2006-01-25 22:07:00 The last DVD-R's I brought were Laser DVD-R's.

They were around $18 inc GST for a spindle of 25. Never had a prob with these.

424255 2006-01-25 22:55:00 I'm using Imation, after my brother recommended them, after using them a lot. Greg (193)
424256 2006-01-25 23:32:00 I second Imation. Have had a bit of trouble with some of the cheaper brands but have had no worries with Imation since I startred using them so now I pay that little bit extra.

Someone else will disagree and it may be just a matter of trying out a few to see what works best for you.

424257 2006-01-25 23:45:00 I have been using Imation +R's, but after some searching and reading and testing them with this program from here,

I have chosen to go for Verbatim or Sony. Here is another forum re DVD quality

424258 2006-01-25 23:54:00 Had quite a lot of problems with Imation.
Have been using the Princo DVD-Rs with the printable surface (4x & 8x) and have not had one fail me yet. A couple of other guys here at work say they have not had any problems with them either.
Got spindles of $50 for about $40

424259 2006-01-26 04:13:00 I have used Imation from time to time and only had one failure, however the cheap Fortis 4.7 ones work just as well on the Samsung 16X unit here [it is actually Toshiba according to my diagnostics]. PENTIUM (426)

424261 2006-01-26 08:21:00 My cheapy bulk DVDs from PBT were a disaster on my Pioneer - that is until I forced writing at 2X (Nero) rather than "maximum".
Imations worked well at 'maximum".
I also found running a CD disk cleaner regularly, reduced the number of coasters. THe PC with the DVD is on the floor and the insides look like the Curse of The Mummy's tomb... thick layers of dust/cat/dog hair... LOL

424262 2006-01-26 08:26:00 Nobody here has yet mentioned (from my skimming of this post) that the quality of the media vs burn quality varies depending on the writer!!!

My Optorite DD0201 will eat up the Princo media without a problem, burn perfect burns every time (well, its dying now, but it did up until a short while ago where im guessing its dying from excessive overuse) on that kinda media. Throw that same media in my TS-H552 and it wouldnt burn readable on anything but itself :(
Then turn the tides and throw in some Laser or CMC media in to the TS-H552 and it'll burn it perfect every time, but if I burn from that in the Optorite even IT cant read the media its just burnt!!

Buy a more expensive DVD Writer and it'll be pretty happy across the board, but Im just stating.....
