424102 2006-01-25 05:43:00 Evening All

The office I work in uses several (as in DOZENS) of word templates. Most of these are in .dot format, but some are saved in .doc.

Nice and simple so far.

We are implementing a new phone system, so our contact phone and fax numbers are changing. I need a nice/easy/simple way of searching the templates we have, up automaticaly updating the numbers en-masse.

I'm hoping there is a quick-and-dirty macro I can use search for all templates (in say "M:\Templates" to replace all instances of say "03 123 4567" with "03 765 4321"

Cheers (in advance) for any help : -)

424103 2006-01-25 06:07:00 I don't know about replacing the text but WindowsGrep will certainly find every instance of it and make it easier to replace. A great little program. mikebartnz (21)

Try www.funduc.com - there's a freeware simple version which should fit your needs.
Not tested it myself - good luck!

I've just tried it and it works a treat.
Warning: DO make backups of your .DOTs and DOCs in your template folder first.

424106 2006-01-26 05:33:00 Thanks for that Manu

Will try it out.

I found another one here;
www.ericphelps.com

Only trouble with it was, it wouldn't work on 'protected' documents. But I was able to (with my limited skills : -< ) modify the VB code a little

Will try out the Fundoc one as well...

Cheers : -)

424107 2006-01-27 20:16:00 At the risk of seemingly advertising, you can get LOTS of free Word (and other) code here, too: www.vbaexpress.com

You have to join if you want to search the kb, but not to get the code. :)
