423732 2006-01-24 00:08:00 You expect us to figure it out if YOU can't?
I'd suspect some malware on anyone elses PC.
What services are on, on this other PC with the same thing?

423734 2006-01-24 00:53:00 You may want to check the default folder options for Explorer:
"Automatically search for network folders"
"Display file size information in folder tips"

A default view of list is the fastest .

If the default view is icon, and the folder has images, that could slow things down .

If the default view is details, you may want to check details, "Choose details", *not* to include image dimensions, width, height, sample rate, . . .

Note that Windows has an annoying feature where it won't show the check boxes to disable, unless there's one file that's an image type file .

423735 2006-01-24 18:57:00 When I've come up against this it's been a malfing drive. Almost alwaya a CD with an error on it and sometimes when the drive was empty.

When it does that, try doing nothing but ejecting your optical drives.

423737 2006-01-24 21:16:00 I had that problem. I found a good defrag clears it up well. Don't use windows defrag. Try and find one which optimises as well as defrags. Perfectdisk 7.0 worked well as was very quick. joshjnz (7844)
423738 2006-01-24 21:24:00 Try running this program - Process Explorer (www.sysinternals.com) - and see if it can pinpoint down what Windows Explorer is up to when the CPU cycles go up. Jen (38)
