423877 2006-01-27 19:30:00 Everyone says avoid Xtra which is why the have the biggest market share, right?
I have Xtra and I have no problem with them. I have the 10Gb 2mb plan.
My father has Xtra too - his is 256k, 1Gb. Everyone else is the smae price for that plan.
If you intend to do a lot of downloading then a 10Gb limit might be a problem which seems to me to be the biggest whinge but I don't pirate muisc or anything so doesn't bother me.

423878 2006-01-27 21:12:00 Note that Ihug don't count upload traffic...

Orcon 256K is terrible (in fact 256K is sad compared to 2 MB plans, unless you are a real heavy downloader and reports of DC++ broken in speed on Orcon).

Xtra are a joke.

I'm on the Ihug 20 GB + 20 GB plan and it's good.

Yep I agree, just change to ihugs 40+40GB plan and with paying for no uploads its more like a 110GB plan.

I'm a heavy user (obviously) and Telecom's 10GB so did not do it for me.

THe ihug account online pages are super easy to use and much more user freindly than xtra.

I agree, it all works. The only odd thing is that Ihug don't provide imap access to their email servers (apart from webmail). Otherwise, it was easy to switch to them.

Orcon used to have good web pages for their accoutns etc but then broke with a crappy "upgrade".

423880 2006-01-29 02:36:00 Definitely Ihug 40 gig or 80 gig plan with tolls. There toll prices are competitive so I would not bat an eyelid at changing.

Orcon do P2P throttle (eer traffic shaping) Ihug do not. Not sure why you could want to use NZ DC++ hubs, My god they suck compared to decent international hubs, mind due if you like waiting 4 months for a slot and DL at 2KBPS then I guesss NZ hubs are great lol.

Ihug also good general pings for gaming and browsing etc (by NZ DSL standards).

423881 2006-01-29 03:05:00 I don't know what Slingshot are like now, but when they first started I tried to join. Asked them via email (both tech support and sales) a couple of questions several times over several weeks and never received an answer. I decided that if they couldn't be bothered responding when they were after new customers, what hope was there of help when they had my money?
I stayed with Clear until broadband became available in my area, and changed to Xtra. I've had no problems and the couple of times when I've needed a question answered ( no I wasn't just lonely!) they have been really good.
I do agree that their plans need modifying. A 2Gb limit on their Discovery plan would be a lot better that the 1Gb it is at the moment. That is the only thing that would make me consider changing at present.

423883 2006-01-31 00:26:00 so far this thread hasn't shown me a reason to change.
to update my first post; I'm up to 8.4GB with 650MB counting toward my limit.

423884 2008-10-13 20:55:00 Since the Telecom change, I go with Telecom.

I was on their "Pro" 15GB plan for $79.95 and it's now 40GB, I get an awesome bargain with that with an excellent unexpected download speed of 12,300Kbps download (usually) and an ok 650ish Kbps upload.

Tested at vodafone, slingshot, auditmyPC and Xnet but not speedtest.net, which sucks/

j19000 is quite happy to post virtually the same thing in any ADSL thread. Must be working backwards through them :waughh:
