423741 2006-01-25 20:40:00 I had this problem too, the ONLY thing I could do to fix it was unfortunately a re-install. Tried closing Explorer.exe and re-starting it, goes straight back up to 80%.
I'd be keen to hear a solution if there is one, just out of interest, how old os the windows installation? Mine was over a year.

423742 2006-01-25 21:10:00 both mine and the other guys are about 2 yrs old........i've just removed zonealarm and disabled spybot teatimer from his system to see if that makes a difference.........process of elimination..... drcspy (146)
423743 2006-01-26 20:29:00 I tried the Process of Elimination thing as well, uninstalled a lot of the programs I had installed, used the 3 finger solute with WinTasks 5 Pro from www.lidownloads.com and shut down all tasks I could, made sure NOTHING was starting up in the msconfig configuration. Still Explorer would use all remaining idle CPU usage.

Only the re-install fixed it. I even tried copying another version of Explorer.exe and running that to see if it was something to do with the EXE, but no joy. Even the good ole' Google search didn't help.
I'd also be keen to hear if someone has managed to resolve this problem, but I doubt it.
