| 423760 | 2006-01-24 01:39:00 | I was wondering if I could ask some advice from the experts on this forum as to which Graphics card I should choose. Basically I am interested in two package deals which are essentially identical except for the graphics card that is included as part of the system as supplied by the dealers. Both systems are of much the same price and include: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800 Socket 939 ASUS A8N-SLI Socket 939, nForce4, Dual Channel, GLAN, Dual PCI Express 16, 4*DDR400 Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 200GB 7200RPM SATA 8MB HDD 512MB DDR 400MHz X2 = 1GB The only essential difference is in the Graphics Card. The first system includes: Gecube ATi RADEON X800XL 256MB/256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x 16 Uni-Wise S/HDTV-out DVI Power Gamer CSCZ Edition The second system includes: ASUS 6600GT 128MB PCIE Graphics Card I would really appreciate some advice as to which is the better fit for the rest of the system. Many thanks. |

Bollocks!!! once again a 10 year old comment, right up there with AMD's run hotter than Intel NOT!! In the real world on 2006, ATI if ANYTHING would be considered more stable as they are committed to a monthly driver release to fix issues and improve performance where Nvidia just release updated drivers when they feel like it. As for robust? absolutely no idea where you get that from. For the record I am not a ATI fanboy as I am currently Nvidia(6800GT), but also owned ATI's over the years (still have 9800XT). I would go for the ATI X800xl as will spank the 6600gt by a considerable margine in nearly all games. BTW ATI also are back to holding the performance crown with the release of the X1900XTX wich tops the 7800GTX 512 by a reasonable margine. |

They said that the BMW bought from XYZ was a great car and I guess it is for that matter. The advert went on to say that we have this BIG SERVICE DEPARTMENT. My thought was that if the BMW car was so good then why do we NEED service? Therefore why does ATI have to update every month? |

| 423765 | 2006-01-24 07:23:00 | Stuff the updates. I always had Nvidia cards until my current card. Then I got ATI as it was the best at the time. I love it. Have updated twice but I certainly don't need to. ATI is not unstable and is running quite happily in my Nforce 4 board. You do not have to have an Nvidia card because you have an Nvidia chipset and it will be less atble or some such rot. Of the two cards you are choosing from I'd pick the X800. Not to say all Nvidia is not rubbish either but its a matter of the best of the ones you are choosing from. Like when I got my card.... |

All reviews and from people here I would pick the same. At the moment I have a Via chipset and a FX5700 Winfast graphic card. I can play MSgames like Links and Flight Sim. Both these work for me on the card I have. If I needed to upgrade then there is nothing wrong with ATI. I don't think I am a gamer as such. Your mileage may vary. |

Well as you are a LEET gamer I guess you would know. It may be better if symiggy gets back with his/her thoughts and what sort of games etc. Certainly the CPU in the post will handle this. |

Some people should at least buy up to date mags before giving authorative opinions . |
