424350 2006-01-26 06:07:00 Open the case and inspect the fan. Make sure no nearby wires are touching the fan unit. Also check to see if the fan blades are hitting the fan case. Jen (38)
424351 2006-01-26 06:09:00 i touched the fan before, seeing if it was the one makign the noise, and it became louder after i did it. so i assume thats teh cause.
apart from being really loud is there anythign bad that can come from the fan makign all this noise. woudl my warrenty cover it?

424352 2006-01-26 06:15:00 Your warrenty will cover this as it is a fault.

Did you just push down in the centre of the fan when you checked it out and it became noiser? Try stopping the fan using a pencil (or pen) to confirm it is the device responsible for the noise.

Even though your GPU shouldn't get over hot with normal computer usage, I wouldn't continue to use it if the noise was really loud. You don't want to risk further damage.

424353 2006-01-26 06:17:00 i just placed my finger against the center of it to slow it down, the noice vanished then when i let go it made alot mroe noise.

perhaps if i cant get it replaced i shall buy an aftermarket fan. maby an 80mm one. then ill only have 80mm fans in my case =)

424354 2006-01-26 06:27:00 Sounds like the fan itself is coming loose. I have no idea how serviceable the fan unit is with access to the screws and whether it is advisable to DIY, but it should be covered by your warranty. :) Jen (38)
424355 2006-01-26 06:32:00 the fan/heatsink ect just clip off.
standard issue mounting pins ect...
if i had the money id jut buy a new fan. such as this img.ncix.com
but im broke so replacement is the only option

ive just noticed that this hsf woudl be bad for me since i only have 2 pci slots next to my graphcis card. and i kinda am using them. the networkcard is probably low profile enough to not be in teh way but unpluging the cable from teh port woudl be a reall pain in teh ass since the vga port blocks acess to the clip that holds the network cable inplace, and thats why the network card is in the 2nd pci slot.
damn this noise is really starting to bug the hell out of me.

424356 2006-01-26 07:39:00 Just take it back - it shouldn't fail that soon, its under warranty so make them fix or replace it. pctek (84)
