424556 2006-01-27 20:28:00 errrrrrr...judging by the board model it's an 800FSB........anyway I've gotta P4 2.4Ghz running at 2.7Ghz right now and it's running at 30c.........it usually stays about there except on HOT days when it runs at just under 40c.....if it's about 39c then its a VERY hot day.............I have a 120mm and an 80mm front fans suckin in.....and a 80mm side fan sucking in......an 80mm rear fan pushing out and the psu has a 120mm fan........its not noisy the fridge makes a lot more noise than this thing.......and its always cool.........just ran a sissoftsandra burn in test and the cpu and mobo hit 34c !! so......yep 50c is a bit hot.....id' be looking at airflow thru the case........and it's location.....my sysetm sits in a hole in the puter desk...... drcspy (146)
424557 2006-01-27 20:35:00 50 degrees is fine.May be fine for that chip, but doesn't sound right. My previous sytem with almost the same specs ran (according to the BIOS temp readout) at around 35 degrees consistently.

I think he does have a heating problem. Somewhere else I've read that if he puts a desktop fan at full blow towards the innards with the case cover removed, and gets a lower temperature reading, then he'll know that it's air circulation and/or case ventilation that's the problem.

But of course it could simply be the ambient temperature of the room - he said "lately" and of course, lately it's been summer.

I will read all your suggestions once more and then decide what to do.

My machine does not have any case fans. Just the PSU and the CPU heatsink fan.
In the meantime I'll have a little holiday and it might be different after a week's break?!
