| 424628 | 2006-01-27 05:00:00 | If I click a link, like f'rinstance: PressF1 and just leave my pointer on the link, it seems that the change does not take effect as fast when I rapidly pull the pointer off the link . Has anyone else noticed this? . . . . and I still cannot use the ALT+xxxx keys here . Is there something wrong? If I want to use the Euro sign (ALT+0128) or any other, all I get is to have the page roll to another position and sometimes I lose the post that I have so lovingly colored (no "u"), bolded or changed the font I have tried to compose the post on WordPad, and then copy/paste it here, but the ALT stuff won't work that way either . Any ideas? :waughh: |

But it's worth checking on yours. There are a lot of possible keyboard settings. The link thing might just be something you perceive. The optical fibres and routers between Auckland and California don't track the postion of your mouse. |

There are two editors here for posting for example . I take it that this IS a posting question? Well while posting this I used ALT+255 to achieve one space . Tries again before preview . Below you should see a period ( . ) followed by ALT 255 being a space followed by another period ( . ) Curious now . :-) . . Well while I am posting that is what I see above . The preview may be another matter . Goes to preview . Well while posting I had a space before the "Well while posting" and I did not in preview . In preview the period followed by ALT255 followed by period showed as expected . Hope this helps . |

We just have to declare the USA an Island of NZ and no visa required. :-) |

| 424632 | 2006-01-27 05:37:00 | But the character code 255 decimal is very definitely not a space . It's sometimes called the "rubout" character, because that was the only way to "rub out" a character on paper tape: punching all the holes . It might have been possible to glue the chad back in, but it would have been slow, and not very good in 1000 cps readers . The official graphic representation of 0xFF/255 these days is probably "undefined" . It's sometimes used to insert an "invisible" character in filenames, because it usually appears as a space in directories . Other than that, there's nothing really it can be used for . Joe is having problems with printable characters . |

Joe is having problems with printable characters. True when I re read. I need to look up my ASCII or EBCIDEC table before I post. I do wonder now why my ALT255 appears as a space in my post. I remember I used to use ALT255 to make invisible directories in MSDOS so other people could not access. How did I get a space between the two full stops or periods as I saw the post? |

| 424635 | 2006-01-27 17:38:00 | Just as an experiment, I tried a few ALT+ codes and these are a few of the results . ALT+0255 takes me to SEARCH ALT+0191 takes me to the front page of the site ALT+0243 takes me to USER CP area . . . . . . see what I mean? I have the NUMLOCK on, and ALT+xxxx works everywhere else, I can even compose the text in WordPad or WordPerfect, then I try to C/P it here and all hell breaks loose . I wind up having to click on F1 to get back to here from my toolbar in Firefox . |

| 424636 | 2006-01-27 22:05:00 | Hey Joe, I can't remember whether you said your ALT keys work in other programs or not, but could it possibly be your keyboard settings causing your problems? If you have keyboard drivers installed for shortcut keys to do fancy schmancy tricks then that could be what is causing your grief . It's gotta be something like that as WE don't have any problems . |
