424469 2006-01-26 21:24:00 I was thinking on upgrading to 2gb ram at the end of this year (ddr400). But it looks like things are shifting towards ddr2. Do you think prices for ddr1 are going to increase? Would it be better to buy the extra ram now?

Also, currently I have 2x512 in dual channel. Does 4x512 run ok? I have read a bit about this, and people where saying 4x512 is bad, because you lose 1T timings or something. Can someone explain this?

424470 2006-01-26 23:17:00 to run ddr2 you'll need a new mobo too....... drcspy (146)
424471 2006-01-27 00:23:00 Yeah, I know that. Let me rephrase.

Are the prices of ddr1 ram going to increase much over the next year? I was planning on upgrading next year, but if the prices are going to be a lot more expensive then, I might as well upgrade now.

424472 2006-01-27 00:48:00 really depends on the nz dollar.....it's good an high right nw makes buying imported stuff relatively cheap.......hell ram is pretty cheap now anyway drcspy (146)
424473 2006-01-27 00:56:00 Do you really need 2 GB of RAM?

There is plenty of DDR in production and I can't see it (as it production levels) changing much this year. Prices probably won't even rise early 2007 for DDR but I'd guess that DDR2 will fall as it becomes very much mainstream.

Yep, 4 X 512 will run okay in dual channel mode. This Anandtech article (www.anandtech.com) talks about some timing issues, but if the extra 1 GB of memory actually egts used by apps then it can only be a good thing.

I'd just keep an eye on pricespy..
