425504 2006-01-30 23:14:00 Get another free email address . Whtever their "engineers" do, they'll never get me to trust it again .

I won't be using it any more .

It bounced (or just lost) incoming mail . There's nothing since December 19 in my Inbox . It didn't send outgoing mail (though it said it had sent it) . It was out for over a month . Then after 4 days or so, they found they hadn't fixed it .

It was incredibly slow to use when it did work .

Effect: Nzoomail Outage Update 23/2/2006
Details:

The current NZoomail outage has been caused by a series of hardware and software failures of the existing NZoomail service .

ICONZ has passed control of the NZoomail system over to Treefrog Systems Ltd, a specialist e-mail systems vendor, best known for their GoPostal high-availability multi-node distributed mail system .

Treefrog Systems mail administrators are currently conducting a forensic analysis of the NZoomail servers and are attempting to recover data from the damaged NZoomail systems . At this stage it does look as if some mail will be lost, though the administrators are working to restore normal mail service as soon as possible .

From this point onwards, the NZoomail platform will be run exclusively by Treefrog Systems . Contact details for Treefrog will be available on the Nzoomail website shortly .

ICONZ apologises for any inconvenience this may have caused .

Announcement: nzoomail . com services restored! (read more)

From: . com/news . php" target="_blank">nzoomail . com

Treefrog Systems Ltd is pleased to announce the return of all Nzoomail . com services .

In March 2006, ownership of all Nzoomail . com services was transferred to Auckland-based email specialists, Treefrog Systems Ltd . Nzoomail was previously owned by internet service provider ICONZ .

Due to hardware problems, Nzoomail services had been unavailable since late 2005, however Treefrog Systems engineers have worked tirelessly to restore service to all users . Unfortunately due to the length of time the system was down, most new email sent to Nzoomail users since December will have been returned to the sender as undeliverable, however any mail already stored in Nzoomail mailboxes should be available along with original address-books .

Treefrog has taken steps to improve reliability, and further work is expected to improve performance even more over the coming weeks .

Now that Nzoomail is back and stable, Treefrog would also like to announce some upcoming improvements for Nzoomail users:

- Massively increased email storage space
- Improved spam and virus protection
- A clean and easy to use yet powerful webmail interface, accessible from anywhere on the planet
- Superior availability, using Treefrog's own "GoPostal" clustered multi-node mail transport system
- New and exciting domain names which people can choose for their email address
- Improved support for mobile users

Nzoomail users should feel confident that Treefrog plans to continue to operate Nzoomail as a reliable and high-performance free web-mail system for Kiwis, by Kiwis .

Treefrog Systems Ltd relaunches Nzoomail . com mail service .

AUCKLAND, New Zealand - March 27th, 2006 NZST - In response to a clamour of customer demand, Auckland based Treefrog Systems Ltd has recently acquired and re-launched the Nzoomail . com free email service .

The service was originally pioneered by TVNZ, and then taken over by ISP ICONZ when TVNZ decided to close down their Nzoom . com operations .

ICONZ maintained the servers and the email systems as a public service, but after a recent series of system failures was about to close down Nzoomail . com for good before Treefrog stepped in .

Treefrog Systems is a developer of high-availability email transport systems .

Matt Camp, COO of Treefrog Systems says, "The opportunity to showcase our cutting edge mail technologies while providing an excellent service to New Zealanders is very appealing to us . Nzoomail . com is the premier New Zealand based free webmail system, and Treefrog is committed to maintaining that reputation and providing a high-quality zero-cost webmail system for Kiwis, by Kiwis . "

When asked how their product would compete against large webmail providers, Camp says "We plan to be better than they are, and we're 100% Kiwi owned and operated, rather than some faceless American mega-corp . Plus, all the good names on the larger services are gone . John . smith@nzoomail . com is a lot better than jsmith3445@gmail . com!"

Camp also comments that while users of certain other free email services have expressed concern over having their email indexed and possibly used to enhance search services, Nzoomail . com users need have no such worries . "We are totally committed to the privacy of our users' email, and no personal email content will ever be available to search engines or robots . "

With services having been disrupted by the outage since December, Treefrog Systems has moved quickly to assure users that Nzoomail . com is back for good, and steps have been taken to ensure that such an outage will not occur again .

Added Camp, "We immediately concentrated on fixing the problems that the service had suffered and re-launching the site, but now that it's up and running we'll be looking to make some huge upgrades . "

Treefrog says that the new features will include:

- Massively increased email storage space
- Improved spam and virus protection
- A clean and easy to use yet powerful webmail interface, accessible from anywhere on the planet
- Superior availability, using Treefrog's own "GoPostal" clustered multi-node mail transport system
- New and exciting domain names which people can choose for their email address
- Improved support for mobile users
