"monthly rental for homeline will be increasing from $39.85 to $42.20 effective from the 1st March 2006"
for a freakin phone line? please!

Plus internet is gunna cost a bit... going for Wave's 256k plan with their TOLLS option (phone tolls go through them) for 50/month... thats 256k 20gig 5pop3 10meg web.

I am flatting in Hamilton... have looked at WiredCountry but the plans are pricey and it's an arm and a leg to get installed.

Any options that are alternative...?

425255 2006-01-29 21:36:00 I understand how you feel.
I have to pay $40 to Telecom for the homeline and I don't even use it (or want/need it). Money down the toliet.

I'll be ringing them up to get out of the Wire maintenance Contract and save $2.53 at least.

Just wait.. Something goes wrong, and you'll find it faster and easier to fix it yourself than wait for telecom to take there time to wiggle out of fixing your old houses interanal wiring...

I got told that if i wired my own extensions in telecom would not be responcible.

They are responcible upto the little box on the side of your house, and you are responcible after that, should anything go wrong you'll get the job done properly if you do it yourself, and patched if telecoms overworked techs do it for you.

If you do your own additions the wiring maintenance contract covers them IF the work was done properly in the first place. Hint: A proper insertion tool does a much better job than the disposible ones.

BrendonBeing a spakys son, you'll probably find it takes less time to put a wire back on the contact behind your phone jack than the time it would take to get telecomto answer thier phone, after you've walked to a working phone to complain......... :D

Code of practice here www.telepermit.co.nz in practice means that if it's reliable and never causes problems, they'll take it as thier problem, but if it's dodgy enough to break, or you somehow break it, then it's your problem...

Unless you have some internet that doesn't use the phopne line, you will be paying that Telecom line rental anyway.
Unless of course you already have one of their plans - such as Anytime, 60's Plus etc etc, in which case your line rental will remain the same.
