| 425009 | 2006-01-28 22:25:00 | i have a pc, with windows Xp Pro ona 40gig HDD, 512MB of RAM and a 900mHz celeron. I also have a 20gig HDD which is blank and i wish 2 put 98se on it. is this possible? because i dont wanna have 2 uninstall XP and clear that HDD cos it has alot of stuff which does not fit on CDs or anything Any ideas? | aidanmaz (7180) | ||
| 425010 | 2006-01-28 22:40:00 | SURE its possible you'll just need to set up a third party boot manager program afterwards.........like 'bootUS' or similar...........also you'll need to run the xp drive as a slave or unplug it while you insall 98 cause 98 will only install to 'c' drive...... | drcspy (146) | ||

I had xp installed on primary master linux installed on secondary master Of course you need 2 seperate ide channels ( you cant use master / slave configuration) on your Motherboard for this to work, I havent tried it with Sata and Ide combination. I then used the BOIS to change the boot order depending on the os I wanted to use. A more risky way ( I haven't tried this ) is to install 98 on the secound disk then manually configure the xp boot loader to give you the 98 and xp boot option on startup of the machine (someone a while back published details on how to modify the xp bootloader for linux, it shouldnt be too hard to modify those instructions for 98, do a forum search). If you use the last method remember the value of backups, then do one before proceeding |
