425192 2006-01-31 00:55:00 Umm ... you shouldn't need a dialer if you're trying to connect through an ADSL router. Antmannz (6583)
425193 2006-01-31 01:00:00 yeh perzactly........the only adsl systems that use diallers are the older xtra usb connection'thompson speedtouch 330' and they aer not a router....... drcspy (146)
425194 2006-01-31 05:17:00 chermesh......

no offence BUT you havn't actually said what you problem is in any detail at all.
all i have so far is
My winxp pro (sp2) suffers from a serious communication problem
As to my "serious" problem, the last line is that I can connect to the net.
I can't establish ADSL communication

need to know....

what types of internet connection do you have?
what hardware is used (types modems etc)?
what ISP?
any related software (firewalls, av etc)?
what programs can or cannot access the net?
your manageing to post here so is it intermitant problem or are you useing a different pc to post on this forum?

that at least will give us a starting point.

425195 2006-01-31 06:52:00 It's an Aztech ADSL2+ Ethernet Bridge Router DSL-600E unit, but it's working perfectly. I'm writing this reply to you using this router, BUT ANOTHER PC.

You are absolutely right!
1. " what types of internet connection do you have? ": I have dialup connectivity, which works and ADSL, which doesn't.
2. " what hardware is used (types modems etc)? ": It's an IBM Thinkpad T42, connected to ADSL via an Aztech ADSL2+ Ethernet Bridge Router DSL-600E router. The router works smoothly with another laptop.
3 I'm in Israel. My line is provided by the only ADSL line provider, Bezeq, and I'm connected via this line to my ISP, which is my university. Their part is perfectly working. I use it this given moment.
4. " what programs can or cannot access the net? ": I can't use any progrm. I can establish connection. When I use a dialer, it reaches nowhere. When I ping to the modem, it isn't returned.
5. "your manageing to post here so is it intermitant problem or are you useing a different pc to post on this forum?": As I wrote above, the problem is computer specific (my T42 thinkpad). Connection is established as expected with another computer.

I'm not connected automatically to ADSL. I must configure a connection. No connection works.

My Aztech ADSL2+ Ethernet Bridge Router DSL-600E router functions as a modem.
Even if I opted to configure it as a router, which contradicts my legal rights, it wouldn't make a difference, since my laptop fails to recognize the router/modem. Pinging to the router/modem fails.

425199 2006-01-31 07:13:00 ok...now where getting somewhere. i would suspect your network card or network settings. can you share files between pc's on the network?

have you checked the cable to the router?

just need to make sure you havn't missed the basic's before getting technical.

The network card is ok. I ran pc-doctor and the card passed the relevant tests.
I played with the network settings quite a bit, used netsh to restore settings, copied registry information from my working laptop to the ailing one. The end result was a configuration which provides no ip information when left to default option. When I insert needed ip information, ipconfig /all reports the expected information. Still no connection can be established since the laptop doesn't recognize the modem/router.

425201 2006-01-31 08:56:00 again........

you need to PROVE that the network is working, not just assume its working. no amount of checking on the pc is going to prove the networking works, you need to do a real world test.
