425450 2006-01-29 03:21:00 having done this MANY MANY MANY times i TOTALLY disagree with those who say 'a clean install'.........great....lose all your apps/settings etc.......what rot......thres NO NEED to do that at all........in the last 12 months I recall at LEAST 20 puters i've replaced the mobo/cpu/ram on and simply run a repair install on and got em up an running perfectly .....easy...fast and you lose nothing.....also n some circumstances even if it wont boot to windoze you can boot to safe mode and install drivers.......however a 'repair install' will always fix those driver issues and will always get you up and running in about 40 mins........clean install is NOT necessary at all..... drcspy (146)

Agree with you drcspy, I too have done many repair installs for this same reason and it has worked every time. No need to start from scratch.

really ?........did I ?.....who said ? oh you ? you a mind reader then ? sorry to tell you your mind reading abilities seem to have atrophied... GGrrr

and why would I simply say "i disagree" ? it seems you think it's NOT preferable to include some indication of my reasoning ? Or am I not allowed ?

425455 2006-01-29 08:38:00 ???The rules according to Greg:

Posts MUST be VERY brief
There will be NO inclusion of reasoning behind posters comments
Greg will have final say as to suitability of brevity
Posters MUST NOT make posts of more than TWO words - even when the rest of the post is further clarification of those important TWO words.
Greg will add comments about your posts stating what you understand, (or not), about the subject you are posting about

425457 2006-01-29 09:37:00 while a repair install works most of the time (changeing HAL) sometimes it dosn't. problems don't alway rear their ugly head till way later. i've come accross quite a few problematic pc's where a repair install fix has been the main cause of the problems. tweak'e (69)
