425498 2006-01-30 15:09:00 My parents HP pavilion PC, which I`m using right now has had ****-loads of problems lately with the OS. All efforts to resolve them have been futile. So all I want to do is completly remove XP pro from this PC, then reinstall. Problem is, the HP "controll centre" has dissapeared and there is an option given to "restore to factory settings", which I used 2 years ago.

Is there an alternate way to uninstall, remove or bastardise XP pro?

any replies appreciated,

bitter`n`twisted.

Once that's done you'll get your on-screen instructions on reformatting, repartitioning and reinstalling.

If you don't have the original disk you'll need to either buy or borrow a replacement.

425500 2006-01-30 19:48:00 The HP Pavilion has some funny hardware, and came in a variety of flavours .

If you rebuild it from the XP CD, you'd get the "cleanest" install .

After reinstalling Windows, you'll need to download the appropriate drivers from the HP site .

. hp . com/country/us/en/support . html?pageDisplay=drivers" target="_blank">welcome . hp . com

You could have probably do yourself a big favour by writing down the following hardware information BEFORE you blow it away:

Right-click my computer . . . "Manage"
"Device Manager"
Expand these nodes, and at least write down what you see
* Display adapters
* DVD/CD-Rom drives
* Modems
* Network adapters
* Sound, video and game controllers

Also handy:

Start . . . Run . . . Cmd
ipconfig /all>c:\temp . txt
notepad c:\temp . txt
exit

The rest Windows should pick up automatically .
