| 426317 | 2006-02-02 11:42:00 | What will you primarily be using the PC for (prioritise)? How much do you want to spend (prioritise)? From that basis, you, with help, can start building a picture of the type of hardware and from that get advise on brands, models, grunt and capacity, etc. From there, it's easier to give specific advise on how it should go together, any catches and tricks, which is more helpful, less daunting and immediate than following a non-specific that may differ enough to throw you off. However, getting a general understanding of what goes where, precautions, tools is still a very good idea. Have fun, don't be reluctant to ask. |

But seriously you might find this one handy: "The US$500 Gaming Machine" www.tomshardware.com Any number of local vendors will be happy to work with you to build a PC. | 426319 | 2006-02-02 23:10:00 | Good motherboard manuals should pretty much cover everything. Read them carefully. You just want to particulary careful installing CPUs and their heatsinks (Intel and AMD plus the heatsink maker usually have instructions with photos). Rule 1: Don't force things... I suggest having a good look around a recent PC (custom built one, not Dell etc), pop open the case and have a good look at how things are supposed to look. You learn by doing it, young grasshopper. :D |
