425946 2006-02-01 03:54:00 Hi everybody,

I am trying to connect mi desktop and laptop together to create a home network. i have plugged in the crossover cable and am able to ping. the laptop recognises the desktop but when i try to access it it shows a message saying the network path was not found. on the desktop i have to search for the laptop, it recognises it but it says i need a password to access it but i have not put any password at all on my laptop. my desktop runs win98se and my laptop runs win2000with built in nt.

I hope you can help me as this is very frustrating. :badpc:

425947 2006-02-01 05:11:00 Are you running any firewalls? For the 2k machine to access the 98 machine you'll need to have the same username and password. Pete O'Neil (6584)
425948 2006-02-01 22:01:00 Try mapping to the network path \\yourPCname\c$ from the laptop. It's a hidden share.

Your laptop may be set to auto-logon, so it could indeed have a password.

425950 2006-02-02 00:48:00 My laptop with W98 sometimes has a USB WiFi plugged in so it can talk to a couple of W2K machines . Whenever I start it I have to give it a password . (I can cancel this without entering the password if I'm not using it on the network) .

I think this is put in as part of the normal network installation on W98 .
