425675 2006-01-31 06:36:00 I've installed a trial version of TM PC-Cillin Internet Security 2005, checked Task manager and tmproxy.exe is using 100 MB of RAM...? I know some av / personal firewall products are hoggy (Norton in particular), but 100 MB?!

I have 2GB RAM but I can't really see why it needs so much RAM.

2nd point: I've actually got a hardware firewall, Dynalink ADSL router, but thought I'd add a personal firewall for hacker attempts, antivirus obviously, anti-spyware etc. Opinions?

PS: I've got a Linux guru friend who says you just don't need to run AV on it at all...? I've installed Suse and it's running fine sans av...

425676 2006-01-31 06:49:00 i'm biased, i hate pc-cillian, so i won't comment.

hardware firewall is one way only, it won't stop anything getting out hence the need for personally fiewall.

while linux may not have virus's it can still pass them on to other users exspecially if your shareing files (email, p2p, network etc).

425677 2006-01-31 09:01:00 You have 2 Gigabytes of RAM, why are you worried? :D Also, try checking with others to verify that tmproxy.exe really belongs to Trend Micro. Done any anti-spyware / virus scanning of late? There are some malwares out there that purportedly use a legitimate file name as their own name.

Cheers :)

425678 2006-01-31 18:45:00 I'm running PC-Cillin 2006 and it only uses about 9,236Kb. Not quite sure why 2005 would be using that much, I used to run 2002 and it never went over about 5Kb.

Have you considered doing a re-install? Get feedback from other 2005 users and see if they have the same thing.

cheers

425679 2006-01-31 21:16:00 Im using 2005 and my tmproxy is using about 25000K

I like pc-cillin, the only problem I have had is that I somehow ended up with 5Gbs of log files in 7 months, and i uninstalled virtually every other program trying to find the source of the disk space usage
A tip for those using pc-cillin check the size of your trendmicro folder mine is now about 170mbs down from 5gbs

Cheers
