| 426219 | 2006-02-02 03:52:00 | Today I received delivery of a Sony DRU810A DVD/CD Rewritable drive through the PC World subscribers special offer. It will replace one of the following: Lite-On CD ROM x52, or, a Lite-On 52x 32x 52x CD-RW, I can't decide which would be the best drive to keep. Anyone any ideas one way or the other? |

I'd replace the Lite-On CD ROM x52, that way you can still burn CDs if the new DVD burner goes on the fritz. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

Then put the loser in the carton the DVD came in, and put it on a shelf where you can find it (not in a "safe place") because you picked the wrong one. (You can't beat Murphy by using the selection procedure then using the opposite answer). As I seldom throw things away, it will go with my collection of other CD readers kept for "just in case it's needed one day", together with about four 5 1/4" floppy disk drives :) Thanks. |

| 426223 | 2006-02-02 04:26:00 | heh, Now where was this thread when I had the cunning idea of storing every single CD drive I replaced or salvaged in the same location? I now have entire shelf of drives of which some are known to be dead, others most probally aren't relaible enough to use, and 3 or 4 pearlers. Just the otherday I accedently sold a hardly used cd writer in perfect condition to a school kid for a gold coin..... |

| 426224 | 2006-02-02 05:55:00 | Ditch the CDROM drive. The CDRW has apparently superior cd copying apparently so you can make near perfect 1:1 copies. | bob_doe_nz (92) | ||

If you understand that) with your proof? |

Edit: I must say this Sony drive is extremely smooth and quiet, by smooth I mean the tray opens and closes with extreme smoooothness, and by quiet, it runs very quietly :) |
