426156 2006-02-01 21:10:00 Have u configured them in the BIOS, so the BIOS knows they're there?

You have to do this first, before anything will see them.

426158 2006-02-01 21:32:00 Well this will be why they dont get detected.

Press the delete key (it might be another key, I dont know), as soon as u reboot to get into the BIOS (dont wait too long).

Then depending on what ide connections the cd/s and hdd are on (primary or secondary master/slave).

Configure the Primary or secondary master/slave, in the BIOS (put these on AUTO), then save the settings in the BIOS, and reboot.

Also make sure the hdd/cd/s are jumpered to slave or master.

Read the BIOS part in the mobo manual.

426159 2006-02-05 00:24:00 after you autodetect
the drives in the bios as speedy gonzales
has posted

this applys to xp
go to administrative tools,
compt managerment.
disk management.on the right
see if the hdd drive and the cdrom
are recognised.
if you dont see them
on the toolbar goto- view- top
and press =disk list and all the
drives will show on the right
they can also be partitioned and
a drive letter assigned in there,
good luck
the reason i kow this i made so many mistakes
trying to configure those drives
i had to learn
this applys to winxp
it isnt in win 98
and im not sure about win me

426160 2006-02-05 10:59:00 hm...........most NEW motherboards AUTO configure the ide channels by themselves........cant remember having to fiddle around in the bios of any of the last 20 or so I 've installed to set anything to auto they are already.....possible they've got the ide ribbon leads on backwards.... drcspy (146)
