426013 2006-02-01 06:19:00 This dell computer shuts down intermittenly, sometimes when it shuts down, it cannot be restarted. Has to wait for a long time for it to cool down before it starts normally.

Have checked and confirmed that all the fans are functioning normally. But found that the CPU has got only a heat-sink with no cooling fan attached. It certainly is not the standard Intel CPU heat sink. Is this Dell's standard cooling system?

Cheers.

Yes. Terrific aren't they?
Leave the lid off, point a household fan at it and run it like that for a bit - that will tell you if heat is the problem or not.

426015 2006-02-01 07:26:00 assuming the case allows it, room wise, stick a fan on the heatsink it's easy enuf and probably gonnna cure yoru prob... drcspy (146)
426016 2006-02-01 09:52:00 Check the PSU. I have a 4600, and it wouldnt turn on, and when it would run, it would turn off randomly. Put in a new 400wat PSU, and problem fixed.

426017 2006-02-01 10:29:00 I thought large companies like Dell and IBM and the likes used proprietry power supplies?
Do they still do that or is it just a few that do?

426018 2006-02-01 10:31:00 I thought they did as well, but i was looking around on google, and found out that the deminesion (Sorry about my spelling) 4600 used a standard PSU. Just check on the net before plugging in

The one it came with was only 250wat (For a P4 3ghz)....
