Hope this works for you, I know the feeling when you see that blank black screen. What is meant by "Try clearing cmos jumper on mainboard." How is it done?? |

2006-11-09 00:17:00 | What is meant by "Try clearing cmos jumper on mainboard." How is it done?? First u have to find out what the brand/model of your motherboard is. Turn the power off. Then open the case and find the jumper on it, take the jumper off for about a minute then put it back on and start the pc again. Then you'll have to reconfigure the BIOS settings.

2007-02-04 01:17:00 | Nope dont think there's any key combinations . Well not if the P4PE supports Crashfree BIOS 2 . Well all it says in these manuals is: (Even tho these are different models) . 1 . Boot the system . 2 . When a corrupted BIOS is detected, the following screen message appears Bad BIOS checksum . Starting BIOS recovery . . . Checking for floppy If there's no floppy disk found in the drive, the system automatically checks the CD-ROM . 3 . Place the support cd in the CD-ROM . The support CD contains the original BIOS for this motherboard . Bad BIOS checksum . Starting BIOS recovery . . . Checking for floppy . . . Floppy not found! Checking CD-ROM . . . CD-ROM found . Reading file "***** . ROM" . Completed . Start flashing . . . 4 . When the BIOS update process is completed, reboot the system . Thats WHAT should happen with a Crashfree 2 BIOS mobo . It looks like the P4PE supports ASUS Crashfree BIOS, dunno if this is the same as Crashfree BIOS 2 . Or not . If it doesnt work, I would say something else is dead . You maybe thinking of EZ-Flash . The keys are ALT+F2 . This is handy, coz all u need is a floppy, but u also need the BIOS update (you dont need AFUDOS/Aflash tho) . ALT+F2 on bootup will flash the BIOS from a floppy automatically . ************************************* ************************************* Hello Speedy Gonzales, Do you know where I can get a copy of Crash Free BIOS 2? Jim You don't download it, its part of a motherboard. Unless your mobo is an ASUS (or whatever other mobo supports it), you cant use it, unless you buy a motherboard that supports it.

2007-02-04 02:18:00 | Thanks..I was beginning to realize that must be the case. My MB, ASUS K8n-E, supports CrashFree, but I can't get that far. I get the voice message " System failure ..do to overclocking". The only way I can see that could be correct is the BIOS is corrupted. The system had been working for over a year until this morning. Any ideas?

2007-02-04 02:58:00 | So do you see the post screen / can u get into the BIOS Jim? Put the mobo cd in (see if u can get into the bios and change the bootdisk to CD), and see if it'll reflash it should . But, it'll reflash it back to the original bios . So, if u want to update it, you'll have to reflash it, after (hopefully) it lets u into the BIOS . The update BIOS (0411) is here ( . asus . com/pub/ASUS/mb/sock754/K8N-E/K8ne0411 . zip" target="_blank">dlsvr01 . asus . com) From here ( . asus . com/download/download . aspx?SLanguage=en-us" target="_blank">support . asus . com) And this is Afudos ( . asus . com/pub/ASUS/mb/flash/AFUDOS211 . zip" target="_blank">dlsvr01 . asus . com) The DOS tool for it .

2007-02-04 17:42:00 | No I can't get any screen display. I tried booting with the mobo disc, no luck. I made a CD boot disc (ntdetect.com + ntldr and boot.ini) that works on my Laptop, but not on the desktop, both are similar . It will look at the disc (activity LED comes on) in the CD drive (The floppy drive was not listed in the BIOS, I guess) just until I get the failure message.

2007-02-04 20:16:00 | I had bought an extended warranty from Monarch Computers and they have gone out of business. The K8N-E and the AMD processor are about a 18 months old so I guess ASUS won't help. What can be done with a system that won't boot at all?
