426838 2006-02-03 14:21:00 whenever i attach my Sony HD5 walkman to my computer i get an error message saying that "A hi-speed device is plugged into a non hi-speed port", even though i recently updated from USB 1.0 to 2.0. It was working fine for a few weeks after the installation but now i get this error message everytime i plug my mp3 player in, whats going on?

426839 2006-02-03 17:43:00 If you're using XP, is SP1 or 2 installed? Speedy Gonzales (78)
426840 2006-02-03 19:06:00 SP1, i think ChunkyMunky (9717)
426841 2006-02-03 19:11:00 Then go into Device Manager and right click on the USB controller and Update driver.
Sometimes thats all it needs. Let XP find the driver itself.

426842 2006-02-03 19:33:00 Or delete the USB controllers in device manager, and reboot. They'll get re-detected. Speedy Gonzales (78)
426843 2006-02-03 19:45:00 have already tried updating the driver, says it has the best driver available

will try deleting and rebooting

on a slightly different point, do you recommend SP2? i have heard alot of bad stuff about it and am just wondering if i really need it, any suggestions?

426844 2006-02-03 19:59:00 SP2 is OK, just as long as u scan for / remove spyware etc before you update / install SP2.

Or get the update, if u have a Prescott CPU

SP2 will reboot continuously, if u have spyware etc on a system, or if you have a Prescott CPU.

If deleting the USB controllers, doesn't work, make sure the BIOS option for USB 2 is on Hi-speed. If USB 2 is onboard.

426845 2006-02-03 20:02:00 Nothing wrong with SP2. You know the old saying, if you hear 10 bad things about something there are usually 20 good things about it.

426846 2006-02-03 20:16:00 on a slightly different point, do you recommend SP2? i have heard alot of bad stuff about it and am just wondering if i really need it, any suggestions? Me personally I do not, as in my experiences, SP2 has screwed up my graphics drivers on my old machine and needed a fresh instal to fix it, on the new machine it screwed up the net settings so often it wasn't funny, each time I got it running again it decided to destroy my connection, also needed a fresh instal to fix it :groan: and both of these happened more than on one instal each . :annoyed:

Anyway these are just my personal experieces and I stay clear of it SP1 is good enough for me

426847 2006-02-03 20:35:00 Have a look in your BIOS to see if they are turned on. Some BIOS default to having USB 2.0 turned off. Big John (551)
