426547 2006-02-03 01:18:00 Hi Team

Next step after getting a DvD-RW is to see if I can watch the odd film in my office.

MP's Life of Brian is cued up and ready to go, but the problem is, W2K says I don't have a compatible decoder installed, which is probably true. I do have DiVX and XviD installed, but they dont pick up and play so I guess they are not compatible either.

What do I need and where do I go to get it?

Cheers

426549 2006-02-03 01:27:00 The DVD playback software that came with your DVD Drive.

This will install a lisenced DVD decoder, failing that you can get them in any number of codec packs, or backyard versions bundled in with some woeful media players.

Have been looking for Life of Brian on DVD for ages now (only locally).

426550 2006-02-03 01:37:00 The Python Pack (LoB, Holy Grail, and And Now For Something Completely Different) can be found at Sounds, Whitcoulls, CD & DVD Store, Wharehouse, etc, for approx. $60. Picked mine up for $40. Excellent collection ("how big is YOUR Python? etc.."), just missing the Meaning of Life.

426552 2006-02-03 02:02:00 Videolan is pretty neat. I actually like the 'no theme' theme :illogical option it has. I usually get lost looking for little buttons in the fancy gui that some of the other ones have. Of course, videolan can be fancy too if you want.

And there is thing about emulating dvd regions that is quite useful.

Pretty sure that was just one of the Terry's (possibly Terry Gilliam. Haven't actually seen that out on DVD yet.

I think the Meaning of Life has a special commentary for the lonely (or people watching by themselves. Haven't experienced this yet, but sure to be hilarious.

426555 2006-02-03 03:07:00 I would personally recommend ffdshow, decodes all formats of video pretty much.
