427955 2006-02-07 03:27:00 Hi. I have just purchased and had installed an ASUS Cub-L motherboard, with two ISA slots. These are necessary because a daughterbord that I require needs ISA.
Initially (two days) it worked fine then on turning on I go through the post till it is indicated "keyboard error or there is no keyboard connected". Thus I can't F1 or del!!!
When power switches on the startup leds on the board light up.
I have tried with other keyboards, checked the pins and inserted properly.
No joy
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

427956 2006-02-07 03:31:00 Wecome to PressF1, Derek.

Do the LEDs on the keyboard turn on and off in sequence during the POST?

Is it a USB or PS/2 keyboard?

427957 2006-02-07 06:51:00 Thank you for your reply. PS/2 keyboard --- it has been suggested to me that the motherboard was so old in time that it would not support a USB keyboard although there are USB ports. The Led's turn on together immediately the Power is applied but not after that

427958 2006-02-07 20:07:00 Often a PC will flash the keyboard LED's when booted. Unless you have a BIOS setting that sets NumLock on by default, often all KB LED's will then turn off.

Have you tried tapping caps lock / num lock and observing the LED's just to see if the keyboard's getting power?

I assume you're using Windows XP. If your PC set to auto-login, you could try a USB keyboard and see if it is detected and installed. You may need to adjust the "USB legacy keyboard" setting in BIOS.

427960 2006-02-08 01:07:00 The keyboard LEDs should always go on and off in sequence when the PC is tuirned on: that's part of the POST. If using the Num Lock and Caps Lock can toggle the appropriate LEDs that indicates that the keyboard and the BIOS keyboard code are working. The LEDs are not directly operated by those keyswitches; they are set by commands from the PC.

Plugging a keyboard into the mouse socket will not damage the keyboard or computer, but it certainly won't work. The keyboard signals are different, and the mouse code will just ignore them.

427964 2006-02-09 07:31:00 Further to the above

When turning on I do not even get the initial "beep"
It immediately lights up the leds

Comparing it to another computer turn on
The "beep" comes first and then the leds all light up
