2006-02-08 04:47:00 | (Game is the pure suck, how can you sit in front of a comp and play at something you could do just by turning away from the computer and speaking to someone, Hell, if I could run amok with high powered weaponary then I wouldn't be doing it via a computer screen) As I said I dont actually "play" the Sim characters much. I spend most of my time building and decorating huge complicated houses with user created objects that quite frankly I cant afford to build and buy in the real world. Each to their own :)

2006-02-08 04:52:00 | Sim2 uses Directx9, which punishes even new cards. If this is the only game you have issues with, change the API back down the Directx7. this way you can save your money and in such a suckage game, you wont see the difference between DX9 & DX7. Under the option for grahic in the game or perhaps in the game setup, there should be a field stating which API the game is running on your card. It claims (in the minimum specs) I must use DirectX9 to play and wont run on a lower version?

2006-02-08 05:14:00 | There is a FAQ on EA's website which asked 'why doesnt the directx version update after installing newer version', leads me to believe the game will run in an older version of directx. Why doesn't the DirectX version update after you install a new version? Answer This is typically due to an improper installation. Try reinstalling DirectX directly from Microsoft's webpage to allow it to update. If your system still doesn't allow DirectX to update, contact your system manufacturer for further assistance in installing DirectX as it is a system program from Microsoft. Check if there is a hardware setup with the game, or an option in the graphics options to select directx7 as in COD2

2006-02-08 06:51:00 | I would imagine if you cranked everything up on Sims2 you would make that G4 break its arse, The game recieved widespread condemnation due to its performance issues, they get by on people thinking 800x600 is good enough . You can crank everything up? How? It's being played at 1024x768 resolution and was installed on a completely fresh installation of Win XP SP2 . I have no idea what version of DivX is on that beast but I do know I have not upgraded it knowingly . Whether the game runs as good or as pretty as it could I wouldn't know as I don't fiddle with that PC and I'm jolly sure it's not getting installed on this one to compare them . The game also recieved widespread condemnation for breaking the world record on the suckage scale . Well it's not me that plays the game, I grew out of Barbie dolls years ago . No offence to you, Meg . :D

2006-02-08 18:37:00 | Well just read all the posts and I thought of something that although drastic may save the original poster some money if it actually works. If you have another hard drive why don't you clone your current system then format and re-install Windows and Sims 2. If the problem still persists then at least you'll have your original install intact and if it sorts the problem then you can import your data and settings so the new installation. Extreme but it may save you that money if it works! cheers chiefnz

2006-02-08 20:15:00 | None taken :) Oh good. I forgot to say that The Sims is a bit of a family joke here - a certain person was very fond of her Barbie dolls until past her "childhood" so was delighted when she discovered the virtual reality versions. :D I interrogated her last night and was told that her games slow down a bit when she has built a really large house. And she has had no more than two crashes that required a reboot in the six months or so that she has been playing Sims2. Other than that no problems have occurred. chiefnz's suggestion is a good one if you are able to do that. I feel that your problem is software rather than hardware related so I would be investigating the former before the latter if it were me.

2006-02-15 11:35:00 | Hi all, back again After some intense searching and a friendly post on a Sims NG I found and interesting site full of Sims 2 Hardware performance info. I figured I would post the link her for the others that occasionally ask questions about game performance. hardware.gamespot.com It makes for some interesting reading...... "The Sims 2 runs contrary to the normal gaming upgrade model that usually calls for a bigger video card. With most games, you can get away with upgrading your graphics to squeeze out better performance. But with The Sims 2, you can kick that whole way of thinking to the curb. It would honestly be hard to find another game that depended less on the video card. You can play the game on a GeForce 7800 GTX and a GeForce 6600 GT and you won't notice a difference in performance. The Sims 2 lives and breathes on raw CPU power; of course, copious amounts of RAM never hurt either. " As I said interesting Have a great day Meg
