In fact I'll be starting an auction for my Gigabyte 6600GT AGP tonight, I was so impressed with it it performed 600 points higher on 3D Mark 2003 than the Sparkle, MSI, Leadtek and Pixelview 6600gt I had. | 428050 | 2006-02-08 03:26:00 | Sim2 uses Directx9, which punishes even new cards. If this is the only game you have issues with, change the API back down the Directx7. this way you can save your money and in such a suckage game, you wont see the difference between DX9 & DX7. Under the option for grahic in the game or perhaps in the game setup, there should be a field stating which API the game is running on your card. As for 4 dimms in AMD systems, the poster is correct with regard to T1 & T2 timimgs, however no one has mentioned loading the entire system to RAM when you have 3 or more GB of RAM. This will make your machine fly. As you have a P4 system, none of the RAM issues effect you. Unless you play BF2, 1Gb RAM is plenty. |

So I guess you would have to have 4gb to keep the dual channel, and that would be getting a wee bit expensive. Maybe next year :) Good to see someone that knows about this ram stuff. Interesting to know that intel doesnt have a problem also. Probably AM2 wont have the problem either. Good tip about turning the sims2 to dx7 and apparantly not noticing a difference in graphics. |

| 428053 | 2006-02-08 04:25:00 | I believe you wouldnt notice the different API because under DX9, on the card all the DX9 eye candy would be turned down anyway in order to get good frame rate. Under DX7, you should be able to increase the resolution along with ALL the eye candy. Yes, total system loaded into RAM.....It is very fast! If you are a benchmark junkie, it is a very good trick as long as you have the RAM. I'm waiting to build a dual cure opteron under X64 XP with 8 Gb, with a 4GB RAM drive to load the system into. A new O/S load every boot!! |

Its all subjective I supose...I had a person who wanted a video card installed so they could play SIMS2, due to budget they ended up with an ATI 9550. I warned em it wouldn't be great. I installed it, It ran like crap and was pig ugly. When I showed it to the customer they thought it looked and ran fantastic and rushed off home to spend the next 6 months doing nothing but hardcore SIMS2 playing. I still think it looked pig ugly and ran like crap. (Game is the pure suck, how can you sit in front of a comp and play at something you could do just by turning away from the computer and speaking to someone, Hell, if I could run amok with high powered weaponary then I wouldn't be doing it via a computer screen) |
