427930 2006-02-13 06:43:00 Hi Chemo!

Why did you not get the Dell at the end??

427931 2006-02-13 10:18:00 Mainly beacuse I could finance the HP L2335 and would've had to come up with the cash all at once for the Dell and even though it's on special at $1500-odd I just don't have that much cash just lying around.
All things being even on the financial front, I probably would've gone for the Dell as every review I've read on it, online and in magazines, has been positively gushing with admiration which is a rarity in IT product reviews in my experience.
Ironic isn't it, Dell can easily make crap PCs but their widescreen LCDs are apparently fantastic ...
But not too uptight as every review I read on the HP L2335 were all pretty positive as well; just wished it had a 4-port USB hub & media card reader like the Dell 2405FPW.

I'll let you know how I get on with the L2335.

427932 2006-02-13 17:08:00 Hi Chemo

Thanks for that.
I find it very difficult to decide because;
*the speakers are not inbuild, but has 4 USB ports
*had philips(standard) screens, and have been good
*I have to buy of the net only,so there is no one personal to relate to
*I read the reviews to, though no one in any forum has replied of using it
*It is so that it(the DELL)has the best reviews in this price class!
So I guess I have to bite!
I will let you know how it is working.

427933 2006-02-13 20:00:00 Hi Gion

I came across your posting by chance and understand your concerns as I had the same problem in choosing components for my new computer, relying purely on others opinions and published reviews in the various media.

I opted for the Dell monitor and I am more than pleased with it. I use it for CAD work and with 3D design software packages and it is pure heaven to have so much real estate to work with. This is especially true, if you don't use the command line to draw and have a zillion toolbars open at the same time like me. As someone with failing eyesight, the clarity of the display has been the real benefit with less use of the zoom function on larger drawings even after using a 19 inch monitor that extra width made a big difference.

If you have gone ahead and ordered the monitor I am sure you won't be disapointed and yes you can play games on it.

427934 2006-02-14 07:19:00 Hey Gion

My HP L2335 arrived today and it's great!
Image quality is execllent and have hooked up both my DVD player & PS2 to it and they both look good.
Not that heavy either but the stand is certainly solid and just so much more room on my desk now without my ultra bulky 21" CRT monitor.
Very happy with it but just wish it had a USB hub & media card reader like the Dell but hey the image quality is fantastic, heaps of screen space and my windows desktop looks great so I ain't complaining!
Haven'y palyed a game on it so will report back on that.

427935 2006-02-14 17:04:00 Thanks guys
I haven't got the screen yet as I will need to upgrade the NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 graphics card to something a bit more powerfull.
Otherwise I can't wait to get a better working space. As I am so much on the screen for work the importance of the screen for games is nill but I guess if it is a good one for that it will also be good for rendering.
I will post when the day arrives!!!

More or less decided on the DELL monitor. The only thing to sort out now is the graphics card as my Geforce FX5200 may struggles to much with the new 1900x1200 Screen? Also the PSU needs to be checked? Is there a little prog to check what rating(w) it has without having to open the box?
Any ideas on graphic cards?

427938 2006-02-23 17:33:00 Good morning
My new and fantastic screen has arrived o.....sum.
It was all easy to assemble and to change over. At the same time I have changed the graphic card so it would cope with the 1920x1200 display.
For CAD it's a mile better. No reflection and so0 much more and bigger working space. With 1 disatvantage, have to travel with the mouse further. If business goes well it may be and idea to get a tablet in the future?
So I guess it is going to be interesting how much more "productive" I can be?
So or so many thanks for your posts.

Increase the acceleration on your mouse and you will go from top to bottom or side to side with just a quick twitch of your fingers or twist of your wrist. I can cover the entire screen of my monitor without moving the heel of my hand off the wrist-rest. When you move it slower of course, the range of cursor movement reduces.

Cheers
