428075 2006-02-08 06:29:00 I have made it into windows, so I will copy my stuff away and then try that, but how does the MBR define which plug it is on?

(plug doesn't sound right, so if anyone knows the 'technical' term for it please tell me :))

428076 2006-02-08 06:32:00 IDE channel, IDE0 & IDE1 master & slave.

The MBR fix will help booting to windows not the BIOS channel error. Do you have another IDE cable to try?

I have got the booting down, I done a check disk in the recovery console, and it found some errors and fixed them, now it loads :)

I will try another cable as soon as all of the important info is off the drive :)

428078 2006-02-08 18:15:00 SolMiester I tried another IDE cable and that done the same thing, saying it was on the slave, and even another HDD, just a random one still said it was on the slave and it won't boot AGAIN, I get a BSOD and then it restarts, I can't tell you what the BSOD says because it flashes too fast to read :( :badpc: The_End_Of_Reality (334)
428079 2006-02-08 21:55:00 Well, cant understand how you got 2 HDD both to read as slaves instead of master, therefore I can only assume it is a BIOS issue.
Have to try the other IDE channel, does that do the same?
The only thing left to do is flash the BIOS to the latest version, if at the latest version, go back 1.

428080 2006-02-09 04:16:00 BUT the BIOS still recognises the drive as being in the 'slave' position, I have selected the 'master' on the jumper settings and put it onto the 'master' plug, but it still says it is on the 'slave' plug
When using the master/slave jumpers it doesn't matter which connector on the cable you use. Make sure you really have set to master on the jumper.

428081 2006-02-09 04:25:00 I reset the BIOS again, and for some unknow reason it works, it detects it as the primary master, now I just have to reinstal windows because it couldn't detect the windows OS, hopefully this works :annoyed: The_End_Of_Reality (334)
428082 2006-02-09 09:57:00 MBR fix again.... SolMiester (139)
428083 2006-02-10 01:01:00 Grr, it won't boot unless the XP disc is in the drive:badpc:, and it now hangs on the login page, and this is a new HDD, do you think it might be a MOBO issue :groan: The_End_Of_Reality (334)
428084 2006-02-10 02:16:00 Are you clocking that chip?, not sure if IDE channels lockable?. Id you were using SATA, there are a couple of ports that lock, not sure if its SATA1&2 or SATA3&4 on that board?

If you are OC the chip could be the HDD getting corrupted!
