427524 2006-02-07 05:20:00 I've tried both hdd's configured as a boot disc, they are both detectable and yes the SATA has power (My PSU came with the right connectors).

The stop message does start off ***STOP 0x0000007B but in the brackets it has a different combination of letters/numbers.

Just had a look for a virus option in the BIOS, can't find any.

427526 2006-02-07 20:00:00 I think Overdrive_5000 is on the right track.

This section is probably relevent, since you're dong a clean install:

"During the first phase of the Windows XP installation, Setup displays the following message at the bottom of the screen:
Press F6 if you have to install a third-party SCSI or RAID driver.
Press F6 and then follow the instructions to install a mass-storage device driver from your Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). For additional information about using F6 to load an OEM device driver to support, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:"

427527 2006-02-08 04:09:00 Wow, that really does describe my problem exactly, I'll give it a try tonight - here's hoping .

One more question though, the OEM mass storage controller driver - will that be on the windows cd, or will I have to download it from somewhere?

427528 2006-02-08 04:12:00 Further reading answers my question - "If you press F6 when you are prompted, you receive a screen that requires you to have the appropriate driver on a floppy disk and to insert the disk into the floppy disk drive to load the driver."

So what's one to do if one doesn't have a floppy? Heh. I suppose I'll just cannibalise one from another computer.
