Anyway.... recently noticed my PS2 making noises from the area of the CD drive. The noises are sporadic and when the PS2 is open I am sure the noise is coming from the bottom of the cd drive.
My question is, if I have to replace the drive, anyone know what the approximate cost of replacement drive is? My PS2 is one of the SCPH-50002 models.
Also where can I find a replacement CD/DVD drive for the PS2? (i.e. are they proprietary?)

428558 2006-02-08 21:33:00 Heh, Hows that answer the question, Besides, there are many places that fix PS2's, anyhow, I know of a couple places that sell parts, Ill look and see if they are still in Bizzo, otherwise just see if you can source another broken unit, Their are billions of dead ones, I know my local Cash for Goods shop has a pile of them used for repairs. Shame on me.

428561 2006-02-13 20:41:00 The above don't do spares (well not to joe average)
Anyone know who does import PS2 spares and sell them as spares.

Re: look on TradeMe, from info gathered this week from the problem becoming clearer (I thumped the machine in anger and it then carried on as per normal), a lot of the broken machines have the same issue mine is (reading dvds).

Is the problem you're having with your PS2 with regard to reading DVD's (i.e. movies)? If so, my unit (70002 - slimline - model) does the same - it skips on certain DVD's, some it won't even read. I put it down to questionable quality of the DVD production process (though all my movies are legit, I suspect not all are created equal), and the DVD drive of the PS2 not being of the highest quality. The same DVD's read perfectly in other, dedicated, DVD players.

I've just learned to live with it (now out of warranty, anyway), and wait until I get a DVD recorder/player (soon, I hope).
