2006-02-08 07:39:00 | Can anyone tell me what the fastest (highest clock speed) AMD Athlon XP CPU is with a 266MHz FSB? Unfortunately I have a Compaq so I can't change the FSB and therefore am stuck with the slower models. | technicianxp (6463) | |
2006-02-08 08:00:00 | easiest thing here is to simply check what the highest cpu your motherboard supports. just because there is a faster cpu dosn't mean it will work on your pc. | tweak'e (69) | |
2006-02-09 01:18:00 | I wish I could, but the Compaq website doesn't help out and I can't seem to find the info anywhere else either. I'm willing to try out the fastest 266MHz FSB model because what I have now is a Athlon XP 2100+ and the fastest model isn't very far off from it. | technicianxp (6463) | |
2006-02-09 01:22:00 | I haven't seen any recent ones, but Compaq used to put a label inside the cover of the box, showing jumpers etc. That usually had a table of CPU speeds usable on that machine and the appropriate jumpering for each. It might be worth a look. | Graham L (2) | |
2006-02-09 01:26:00 | if the fastest model isn't that far off then is it worth it ?? otherwise AMD's website should list the cpu's (or an amd fan site).

2006-02-09 02:53:00 | I think it is either 2400 or 2600. They will be hard to find though I would imagine. | mejobloggs (264) | |
2006-02-09 04:23:00 | It might not be a matter of what FSB you motherboard supports, your motherboard may not support the new cores. Probably best to double check with Compaq as to which is the fastest CPU your machine supports. | Pete O'Neil (6584) | |
2006-02-09 04:31:00 | i love wikipedia, en.wikipedia.org the fastest would be the Athlon XP-M 3000+ and the Athlon XP 2800+ Barton and since they are both barton cores, the 3000+ is the better option, since its got a higher clock =D

Unfortunately I have a Compaq so I can't change the FSB and therefore am stuck with the slower models. 2400+ by my reckoning Possibly 2500+ but unlikely. Good luck on buying one. I take it that your Compaq takes a 462 (Socket A) processor. Try giving us the motherboard model and this may help. |
