428431 2006-02-08 07:07:00 Am looking for cables to extend those on ATX power supplies i.e. the outputs of the psu. Drawn blanks at DSE, Jaycar & half dozen techies. Anyone stumbled across such cables or will it have to be a "make up" job? :help: Valerie (4740)
428432 2006-02-08 08:12:00 How long do you want?
I assume you are after the power cables that plug into hard drives.
DSE has a Disk Driver power splitter which will extend the reach a little bit.
You might have to cut it up and re-engineer to make it longer.

428433 2006-02-08 08:44:00 Thanks Gibler.

I want to extend all cables by about 500mm, including the mobo connection (20/24 pins). I saw the cable splitter in DSE's but it doesn't suit my purpose.

Guess I'll have to get the soldering iron out of its retirement. :p

428435 2006-02-08 23:50:00 My first reaction was: "a bit difficult to get the connectors", but then of course I realised that you've got a pair of sidecutters as well as a soldering iron. You can extend the cable, rather than making an extension cable. ;)

Just two things:

Use good wire ... maybe heavier than the original, and cut fairly close to the connectors. Some of those wires carry heavy currents.

Don't rely on insulating tape on the joints. Use heatshrink.
