428230 2006-02-08 01:17:00 I have over time gotten a lot of pixs that have somehow migrated to the Desktops options area.

I have .txt and .rtf and .doc files there that would like to become desktops. ..but I want to remove them without ruining the original documents.

Just where do these guys hide so I can remove them and get back to the basics?

My feeling is the Powertoys had something to do with this.

428231 2006-02-08 03:40:00 I would tell those ".txt and .rtf and .doc files there that would like to become desktops" to stop being so cheeky! kingdragonfly (309)

428233 2006-02-08 07:01:00 You could right click on them and then Properties to see if they are actual files in the Desktop folder or just shortcuts to files (in case you may have removed shortcut arrows via TweakUi ).

The Properties will tell you where shortcuts 'point' to.

If they are actual files/pics etc in the Desktop folder why not just drag and Move to the appropriate folders, like My Documents etc?

428235 2006-02-09 04:18:00 I think what Joe is trying to say, is that under Desktop Properties > Display Tab and in the Background list, he is finding all these non-graphic files. Is that correct?

I would of thought it would of only listed graphic file types, so if you are getting .doc and .txt listed, something has gone whacky. I would suspect incorrect registry key(s) to be behind this ...

Yeah! . . That's it exactly! :waughh:

I got all the pixs from everywhere including the backgrounds and stationary colors and such posting themselves as useable desktops now . . . this is whack-o!

I even have scanner results of documents and some . doc and . rtf files that are viewable as desktops too . . . Gads!
