428247 2006-02-08 03:38:00 If you're in the root directory of C:, dir /s > bigfile.txt will put a directory of all files on the disk into that file. It will be a big file. It might be better, if you know you are looking for fred.exe, to do dir fred.exe /s , or dir fred.* /s or even use the Windows "Search" with wild cards. Wild cards are a bit limited: "fred*.*" will work; "*fred.*" will work; "*fred*.* probably won't.

dir /? will tell you all the options. The " /?" used after any DOS command will do that.
