428917 2006-02-09 21:57:00 I get the following error quite a bit, with lots of different sites

it seems to having something to do with advertising.

as the first URL is always an adserver and the second url is the site i want to go to
http.edge.ru4.com

I have both a hosts file setup and run adblock, the error has only been happening for the last couple of months,

I only noticed it after i had removed apache server from my machine, but that could be a red herring as when i get errors on websites i don't tend to investigate i just go elsewhere, it was just one of those things that i looked at the url and noticed there were 2 urls in it

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers

428918 2006-02-09 21:59:00 What do you want us to do with the exe you linked to. Rob99 (151)
428919 2006-02-09 23:02:00 yeh i'ts a setup file for AOL lmfao........dont think I be needing that ! drcspy (146)
428920 2006-02-10 01:10:00 I don't want you to do anything with the URL,
i want to know why it is happening that i get a URL like that for some sites i go to, that URL just happened to be the latest one

i am assuming it works for you when you click on it (wants to download AOL Explorer), for me it doesn't work
I get
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at http.edge.ru4.com

the urls are appearing in this form (hopefully it won't get condensed like the previous one)

Advertising_URL&target=http:

obviously if I remove the http://Advertising_URL&target= bit I go to the page I want, what i want to know is why it is doing this

Thanks

Oh and i prefer to use AOL explorer over Internet Explorer when testing sites for IE (and I can login to my aim account first pop, whereas firefox takes 3 attempts to get in to it)

428921 2006-02-10 04:23:00 Clicking on your posted in my FF browser indeed gives me the option to download the file.

Two things could be happening;

1) You may be having issues with your choice of browser

2) The code on the page is stuffed

428922 2006-02-10 07:21:00 It does happen on more than one page (although as usual i can't find one at the moment) and it happens in all browsers (well in opera nothing happens at all) Morgenmuffel (187)

428924 2006-02-10 21:49:00 What is causing it is my hosts file, i just reset to the standard ms supplied one and the problem goes away, -- and yes before you say it I had tried this before but I guess firefox mustn't have closed properly or something, but I am noticing a lot more ads out there Grrr

So now a completely different question

When I had the server running on my machine, (along with the hosts file) would that have prevented this error, as i don't remember it happening, but then again i never really looked into errors like that, I just went somewhere else

Cheers
