428597 2006-02-09 01:01:00 my mate has got his computer back from a pc repair shop, they installed a pirated version of wnidows onto his computer, he doesnt really care because he has a legit liscencse, which is installed on his other drive, how can i get the serial from the old xp install files on the old drive, and replace the illegal lisence with the legit one?? dont say i installed pirated windows because all my microsoft software is legit. 428598 2006-02-09 01:04:00 is the other older drive bootable and runs windows if so it's pretty easy to get the key just boot it up then install 'magic jellybean keyfinder' that'll tell you the key.......otherwise I'd doubt its possible drcspy (146)

428600 2006-02-09 01:16:00 Of course, the legitimate copy on the other computer has a licence which covers only one computer. :D Graham L (2)

428603 2006-02-09 02:47:00 I would be reporting this repair shop to Microsoft.
Sometimes they pay up to $5000 for info on shops / retailers using pirated MS software :D

I used to get letters from Microsoft saying this but haven't received one for a while so don't know if they are still doing this. Maybe got too many reports and couldn't investigate them all!

428606 2006-02-09 21:43:00 If the PC shop advertised the PC as "Windows XP installed", or "system including Windows XP," I'd demand a legit version or threaten to turn 'em in.

It's really not fair to businesses who are being legit, giving an unfair advantage to crooks.
