428586 2006-02-09 00:31:00 Hello members

I have a dial-up setup and untill a week ago everything went ok. Now while I am browsing, maybe 15-30 minutes after first contact the connection slows down to a halt and the pages can't be opened. It is absolutely a pain!!
I rang the ISP and they asked if I could find any malware/spyware etc in safe mode. The common progs are installed plus Panda Internet security.
Interestingly if I check the mail during this halt it does work ok??

Has anyone of you an idea what this could be?
A feedback is very much appreciated.

428587 2006-02-09 00:43:00 This is usually caused by a phone line/modem issue
Have you changed or updated anything lately. Installed new phones or sky digital.
You may have had some extra settings in your dialup modem connection which have been deleted. These are sometimes necessary to give a more stable modem speed if your phone line is noisy or of poor quality.

428589 2006-02-09 01:10:00 I have been checking iconz's Network Status (www.iconz.co.nz/sup_networkstatus.php) page recently. They say that from some unknown time to yesterday morning, their international provider was having problems which were causing significant slowdowns. Perhaps this has been common. :D Graham L (2)

428592 2006-02-09 01:44:00 Hi tweak'e

Modem extra setting: -V90=0 Is this any good for a LucentWin Modem?
Sites: been mainly monitor manufacturers,F1, PricesSpy
Just common sites.

428593 2006-02-09 01:56:00 it would pay to string it down to 34. can't remeber which one for lucents.... +ms=v34 is a comman one. a quick search will soon tell you which string you need.
your only connecting at 33k so you might as well make the modem run at that. ifyou keep the modem at v90 it will try to run faster and cause the types of slowdown you are getting.

Gion
The normal extra setting for this modem is S38=0-V90=0
I don't think just having -V90=0 will disable V90
Even though it should not make any difference it is best to set the maximum speed to 38400 as well as it has been found that it does make a difference when adding a string.
