428332 2006-02-08 04:28:00 My other half has just bought a new laptop ASUS Z9100L with a dvd writer.

Can someone tell me how to determine if the dvd is + or - compatible. I can't find any info that came with the machine on this. Maybe I'm going blind.

428333 2006-02-08 04:39:00 If Nero is installed you could use Nero Infotool.

Or go to device manager, see what brand/model it is, and do a search in google or yahoo.

Going by the info tool it will read both, but will only write minus.

Edit:
Correction; I read it wrong, apparently it will do both.
Thank you.

Shoot me: :horrified :D
Correction again, it will read both, but will only write minus.

428337 2006-02-08 05:00:00 Most desktop drives now have the ability to read and write in both formats, I'm not sure about laptop drives. If you are still unsure, just go and buy a disk of each type and see if they work. :p maccrazy (6741)
428338 2006-02-08 05:09:00 I think I need a beer, or something a little stronger.

It does write both after all.

Now I'm gonna run away and hide.

428339 2006-02-08 17:53:00 You'd be best posting the drive make / model so that we can look up the specs for you.

Theres a good chance it will READ both formats, but most writers that Ive seen in laptops are only DVD-R/W writers, not +.... Theres no gaurantee, you cant just _assume_ it'll write to both!
