428249 2006-02-08 02:15:00 I have a little problem with Word 2002 that is driving me nuts and this is it
This has only just started today

Everytime i save a Doc in word it is saving a second copy with these symbols in front of the file name. For example if i save file and i name it Test i end up with two saved files

Test
~$Test

Has anyone got any ideas why this is happening and how i can fix it

Thanks in advance Glassaman

428250 2006-02-08 02:35:00 It's a temporary file word uses while the document is open
It will disappear when you close the document
Turn off "show hidden files & folders" if you don't want to see it

428251 2006-02-08 02:38:00 Are you sure this "problem" began yesterday or have you only started noticing it happening since yesterday? Those files are Word temporary files and quite normal. They are created to rescue your work in the event that it is lost due to a power failure, system crash or plain human error. Normally they self-delete after Word is closed or the computer rebooted. If there is a problem they don't self-delete and that needs to be investigated. This usually requires an Office or Word patch/service pack to be installed.

Note that you need to disable "Hide extensions for known file types" in Windows Explorer's Tools to see the file name as Test.doc or ~$Test.doc or ~$Test.tmp.

For more information have a look through the links Google (www.google.com) threw up.
