| 429272 | 2006-02-11 09:13:00 | ...automatically print a list of my MP3's. I currently have them sorted like this: One main folder called 'Music' Inside this folder I have folders named 'A' to 'Z' Inside these folders I have (for example in the 'A' folder) more folders named 'ACDC', 'Anthrax', 'Addict', 'Aerosmith' etc etc etc. Inside these folders I have more folders labelled with the album name Inside the album name folder I have all the individually named MP3 files. (Phew - does that make sense??) At last count I had somewhere between 11,000 and 12,000 MP3 files. I would like to catalogue these but preferably not by hand. Is there any software out there that anybody is aware of which could print a list of all the MP3 files I have (not necessarily down to individual MP3 files - just to Album level would be good). I have tried looking around for a while yet and nothing I have trailled so far has been able to do that. Any suggestions gratefully accepted. Thanks in advance. |

| 429275 | 2006-02-11 23:49:00 | The DOS dir command will get you a list ... use the cd command to get to your Music directory, then dir /?. That will show you the options to the command. There is one "brief" option which will give you just the file names. It might be "/b", but I can't remember. ;) Then dir *.mp3 /s /b > allmymps.txt (with spaces between elements, as shown) will give you a file which you can then play with. Of course use the correct option(s). (The "/s" is right ... it goes into all the subdirectories.) |

| 429277 | 2006-02-12 00:54:00 | Because I'm bored I'm attempting to write a program that reads ID3v1 tags and dumps them in a text file. Just gotta get my head back around recursion. It's about half done (although is written in java - no fancy interface either). | DangerousDave (697) | ||

| 429280 | 2006-02-12 09:50:00 | I've finished writing a program for it. It only reads ID3v1 tags, might work on ID3v2 support as well. It'll work well if you have it already sorted into folders. Reply if you want a copy and I'll upload it somewhere... Its written in Java as well so you'll have to have JVM running... | DangerousDave (697) | ||
