429154 2006-02-11 00:12:00 Hi there

Just want to ask a few quick questions about the Brother's MFC210C and MFC215C . . .

First- Whats the difference between the two, checked for the specs on DSE but it was no help, barely gave any specs .

Second- How does the Brother Multifunction devices compared to HP and Canons etc . Such as the scans, prints and faxes . I have done a quick search through PF1, a few people seem to have problems with it and said the quality is quite average .

Last Q- Hows the photocopier on these two devices, when they print, are they faster than normal printing speed or just the same? Also I've heard it drinks ink . . . is it really that bad?

Any one with any comments or suggestions, all very welcome .

Thanks

429155 2006-02-11 01:59:00 Don't think there is any major difference, just that the MFC210C has been replaced by the MFC215C so I'd go for that if I had to choose. CYaBro (73)
429156 2006-02-11 02:20:00 there is also an issue with the MFC210C with winxp and you need a special little prog to make the scanner work.........it's not easy to find and I do have copy ... drcspy (146)
429157 2006-02-11 02:43:00 Eh? Just using the default Brother Control Centre software that came with it.. Clicked "Scan to file"... And it scanned. To a file. roddy_boy (4115)

We were given a Brother MFC-210C for Christmas . Once installed we found it would throw up an error message after receiving a fax (intermittently) or copying (all the time) . The error message said Unable to print - but it did print . As a result we could not receive another fax until the error message was cleared (which we could only do by turning the machine off and then on again) .

We took the machine back to Dick Smith . They said they no longer stocked the MFC-210C, so we were then forced to pay the difference and get a MFC-215C . Anyway, so far the newer model works fine . If I were you if you are choosing between the two go for the 215C .

429160 2006-02-11 07:43:00 But if I had a choice, I would not buy a Brother .

(One is languishing in the shed now, only a few months use, the quality is too poor to use as a small business colour printer unless you print at superfine, which is s-l-o-w)

Damn fine as a fax though, average as a scanner .

Unless they have had (hopefully) a quantum leap in printing technology since the MFC 3820CN to which I refer, which was an up-market version (supposedly) at that time .

It drank ink alarmingly in its cleaning cycles as well .
My older HP unit runs rings around it for quality and speed and lower running costs .

They have one redeeming feature now though, they are very cheap, so I guess they are "reasonable value" .

429161 2006-02-11 08:27:00 Thanks for all the suggestions and comments, hmm, it sounds like Brother's MFC210C or MFC215C has quite a few faults .

As for the 'cleaning cycles' is that a 'Must run' process? Cause it sounds like you need to run it quite often .

Any more comments or suggestions would be very much appreciated .

Thanks

429162 2006-02-11 08:31:00 My MFC cleaned itself more often than the cat, its not an optional process. Powering it off is the only way of stopping it, hardly useful for a fax.... godfather (25)
429163 2006-02-11 09:07:00 i bought the MFC5440CN the other week. I use it at work, it prints much quicker than the epson cx3100 i had there + I have all faxes received into memory so i can view & print whenever, switch comp off on Friday night & on Monday morning, wow look at all the trees I saved by not printing. I got an external answerfone connected to it & all works well. It scans much quicker than the cx, faxes straight away or whenever I want it to. Separate ink tanks ect, All in all it's a good unit for $250 Phil B (648)
